All That Glisters

This one is a typical combination of potentially interesting SF ideas and visuals, and bad '50s sci-fi B-movie touches that undermine the better aspects. For the first time with this viewing, I like the planet. It comes across as someplace very dead (but not completely), very alien, someplace people should not be setting foot. I like the shot of the Eagle landing against the red sky, and the gnarled tree Maya pauses by, while yelling out to find Tony.

The Irish cowboy starred in "Target", didn't he? Someone says about him: "He's going to do something stupid!" The Sinatra song? The character seemed forced, but at least we got to see a character part for once in Sp99. He got so worked up over milgenite that even I wanted some, and I don't even know what the hell it is....
Good for them, seeding the clouds, though they were probably a hundred miles away by the time the thought occurred to them. It seems this might have been one of those organisms which is deadly to an entire planetary ecosystem though, like the thing in The Outer Limits' "Wolf 359".
Alien beings should not just be able to do stuff, without any rationale for it, just because they're scary powerful aliens. That's sloppy writing. Every being they run into, even rocks, seems to be able to reprogram their computers, and I can barely operate a computer!

Is "glisters" a word?

Ah yes - an episode with some great lines (according to my copy of the script that I have for that episode)

eg page 7 - Dave - "Rocks understand me, Commander. None of my wives ever did but rocks do."

page 27 - Alan (staring at rock) - "I wish it would let us know what it wants"

Yes, "glisters" is a word. The title derives from Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice: "All that glisters is not gold".

Or according to my Collins Concise Dictionary, glister is an archaic word for glitter.

Which means Gary Glitter could have been known as Gary Glister

Not one my fav Episodes, but i do remember the red sky from the first time i saw it in the winter of 1977 at age 13.
