Favourite music/musicians/groups
Thought it might be good to start a thread to find out people's taste in music. What music do you like? Do you have any favourite songs, groups, singers, musicians?
My tastes are pretty diverse. If asked who my favourite artist is I would have to say Stevie Wonder, I think the man is a musical genius and there isn't much of his stuff I don't like. I have pretty much all his albums.
If I really like something I tend to play it to death! Recently I bought Rihanna's "Good girl gone bad" basically because I'd heard the song 'Take a bow' and loved that. So on the basis of that I bought the CD, and couldn't stop playing it. It has some really catchy tunes. Then I bought her previous CD "A girl like me" and liked that even more! Other likes are Take That, especially their newer CD offerings "Beautiful World" and "The Circus". Yeah, some of the songs are typical teenie-bopper stuff but there are some really seriously good tunes on there too. Am also enjoying some of Duffy's stuff particularly the songs 'Rockferry' and 'Stepping Stone'. Bought Adele's CD recently too but there are only a couple of tracks I like on that, in particular 'Make you feel my love'. That one is beautiful.
Other likes are some Carpenters stuff, particularly the track 'Maybe it's you' and 'Mr Guder'. Also like David Gray, Erasure, Supertramp, some of David Bowie particularly tracks 'Golden Years', 'Wild is the wind', Chris Rea tracks 'Tell me there's a heaven', Led Zeppelin 'Stairway to Heaven'. Love a lot of the 70s stuff because that was the era I remember most when growing up and getting interested in music; stuff like ELO, 'Blockbuster' by The Sweet, 'Sugar Baby Love' by the Rubettes. Oh it's all coming back to me now....

Re: Favourite music/musicians/groups
I'm afraid to say, I've now reached that age when all new pop music sounds like rubbish to me. Not strictly true actually, but I don't really pay attention to what's in the charts any more. If I buy a new CD, it'll likely be one by the bands I've been following for a long time. The recent stuff I do know strikes me as not really comparing to the music I remember. For instance, I quite like Franz Ferdinand - they seem like one of the best bands of recent years, but I'm acutely aware that they wouldn't have cut the mustard 20 years ago, and would have seemed like just another guitar band then, rather than the cream of the crop as they seem today.
Growing up in the seventies and eighties, most of my favourite stuff is post-punk, eighties indie music (when indie actually meant what it says), old school goth. Favourites: The Fall, Joy Division, The Smiths, The Sisters of Mercy, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, X-Ray Spex, The Cure, Talking Heads, Half Man Half Biscuit, Dexys Midnight Runners, David Bowie, Roxy Music, Parliament-Funkadelic, Kate Bush.
I also like jazz, but not trad, swing or big band stuff; mostly I'd go for post 1940s to 1970s material: Hard Bop, modal, and Fusion styles - I'm especially keen on Miles Davis and Ornette Coleman.
