SPACE 1999 CONVENTIONS Empty SPACE 1999 CONVENTIONS

Post by SPACE 1899 Tue Nov 17, 2009 1:27 pm

Has anyone been to any of the Space 1999 conventions held over the years ? - and if so, please do share with the rest of us regarding your memories / experiences there, such as -
which guests appeared, what they talked about, what kind of questions they were asked and what answers they gave, any funny stories they related, what was it like as a social event, was it a friendly atmosphere, did the guests mix with the attendees during the course of the convention, what kind of things were for sale / available for auction etc etc

Can't start the ball rolling myself as I've never attended one, but from what I've seen and heard on Captain Phils website, they appear to be great events.

Thanks for plugging my site! I have tons of stuff to upload from the 1999 cons I've been to plus some pictures and audio from someone I've never seen at cons before but saw last year. One hint.....He-len-a.....

No problem and welcome aboard Captain !

I must admit I've downloaded to disk the audio files from your website of the various interviews given at the 2005 convention and have listened to some of the Nick Tate interview so far - very entertaining - and also interesting story about how he was cast as the person to fight the monster in Dragons Domain, in the first draft of the story, before the 'powers that be' changed it.

Am listening to the Nick Tate interview on Capt. Phils site as I write this, and find it interesting to hear Nick's views about the development (or rather, lack of development) of the secondary characters. Nick is right when he says that greater development of characters would have helped the series. It certainly seems as if there were a lot of ego's fighting for power, but he is very gracious in his later comments about understanding why Martin acted as he did. He has a great sense of humour though doesn't he, and sounds like a great, fun guy.

Indeed, and as I've mentioned on the Eagletransporter site, all credit to Nick that even though he was not given much room for character development in Year 1, he still gained a lot of fans, so much so that he secured a place in Year 2, against the initial wishes of 'the powers that be.'

I'm just loving it that people actually go to my site, makes me want to update it even more. I haven't worked on those 1999 pages in a while and I've learned a bit more since the last time. I'll try to get so goodies uploaded before the new year. Also, I haven't listened to those phone calls in some time, I think I have to throw them on a USB stick and play them in the car to refresh my memory. That convention was some trip, Barry was amazing and speaking to Sylvia Anderson was another huge highlight. Thanks for the encouragement, I usually just update the Destinies pages because that's a weekly show and it keeps me working on the site but I have tons of 1999 stuff that is waiting for a major upload.

For some recent interviews with ex Space 1999 cast members - Barbara Bain, Suzanne Roquette, Nick Tate and Ziena Merton check out http://www.blogtalkradio.com/ndbmedia and click on the relevant month on the ON DEMAND EPISODES box midway halfway down the page in order to listen to or download the interviews. Hopefully there will be more to come in the near future as well.

I saw those as well, I'll have to grab them and save them for later listening. Thanks again for the heads up, the four day weekend is coming soon and I'll try to make a stab at some new 1999 content inbetween mouthfuls of turkey. If not then, then maybe Christmas vacation which is a week and a half

SPACE 1999 CONVENTIONS Empty Convention in July

Post by s99fan Fri Jun 11, 2010 5:19 am

Anyone here attending the Journey to Where Space:1999 convention in Texas, July 16-18? I had desires to attend, but a work deadline precludes.

Much as I would like to attend the convention, work also means I cannot. I'm a teaching assistant in a school and the school doesn't break for summer holidays until July 22nd. Also there's a small thing called finances!! I've never been to a convention of any sort but one day maybe. I have a friend from the U.S. (not on this forum) who is attending so will be interested to hear all about it from her, and any others here attending.

I take it that no one here is attending the convention? It is next weekend: 16 to 18 July 2010. I have much curiosity to what this 'Return of Victor Bergman' is about. It is to be hoped that something will be said here or at Online Alpha once the convention is completed.

CalgaryAlphan, I see you will be having a interactive conversation with those who attend. Perhaps you will solve the mystery in due time?

Did anyone here attend the convention ? There is an interesting detailed write up and pictures of the event on Facebook. Shame that Catherine Schell could not attend in the end...
