Where you live
Séyiz les beinv'nus (means welcome in Jersey-French)
Thanks to Magnus for the idea for another topic.
Tell everyone a little bit about where you live.
I'll begin with my home island of Jersey. It is an island 9 miles by 5 miles, situated approximately 14 miles (22 km) off the coast of Normandy in France, and 100 miles (161 km) from the southern coast of Britain. It has an estimated population of 91,626. The official languages are english and French, the latter being used mainly in governmental and law matters. It also has its own dialect called Jerriais (Jersey Norman French), spoken mainly by the elder generation but also now making a comeback amonst the younger generation. The island is divided into twelve parishes, St Helier being the capital. Jersey is a separate possession of the British crown, and is not part of the United Kingdom, but rather part of the British Isles. It has a long and complicated history which I won't bore you with but if you're interested Wikipedia is probably the best site to look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jersey. What is it famous for? It is the birthplace of the actress and mistress of Edward VII Lillie Langtry, Jersey Royal potatoes, Jersey cows, Bergerac(!), being the only part of the British Isles that was occupied by Nazi Germany during the Second World War.

Eh? And where is this? Unless, of course, the point of the answer is to stay obscure for privacy's sake.

I live on a peninsula and Jersey sounds a fraction of the size - I thought Wirral was small! At least we can keep driving in one direction - there's water on the other three sides.
