PRENTIS, ZIENIA & CATHERINE AT BIRMINGHAM NEC 21/11/09

Post by SPACE 1899 on Sun Nov 08, 2009 10:54 am

Also mentioned already on the EagleTransporter.com forum, but worth mentioning here in case anyone is not aware of it - see below link
http://www.memorabilia.co.uk/guests/media_guests.html
That's 3 people who featured on Space 1999 appearing at the event.
And only £10 general entrance price on the day. Very Happy
Anyone else from the forum here thinking of going along ?
You know it makes sense. Very Happy

Prentis mentioned this event on Facebook, certainly looks well worth a visit. There are some terrific guests there. It's at times like these that I wish I didn't live on an island, it's just so expensive to get off this rock!

Probably what Simmonds was thinking before he stole that ill-fated ride back to earth in 'Earthbound' Laughing

If anyone is going, don't forget to take extra cash for autographs and also don't count on there definately being any Space 1999 merchandise for sale - I sent an email to the information email address at the venue and received the following reply -

There is no charge for actually meeting the guests once you have paid the admission fee except you do have to pay to get an autograph from each guest, the guests that you are enquiring about (Prentis, Zienia and Catherine) have an autograph charge of £15 per item.
We do have many dealer stalls at the event but can not confirm whether or not they will have specific items.

Still thinking of going though and will take my camera if I do go... Very Happy

Well - I've got my camera and some cash ready for my trip to the NEC this weekend.

I've got a long list of Space 1999 questions for Prentis, Zienia and Catherine as well - will have to see how it goes and if there's a charge per question as there is per autograph. If there is I'll try and combine lots of questions so that it appears to be only 1 question !!!

Indeed - I don't think I've been this excited since the time I went to the Star Trek exhibition in Las Vegas a couple of years ago, where I was chased down the corridor by some Borg dudes...

So, how did you enjoy it?

I understand that Zienia was not in attendance, but hopefully you had a great time meeting Prentis and Catherine.

Just back from a weekend in Birmingham combined with a trip to the NEC on the Saturday - the first memorabilia Show I've been to - and had a great time.

I was delighted to meet and chat with Prentis and Catherine and get their photographs and autographs. I also gave them details and contact info regarding the recent NDB media interviews with ex cast members of Space 1999, and asked them if they would kindly consider the possibility of arranging an interview. So fingers crossed everyone.

I will compile seperate postings following this one, with fuller details and photos of conversations.

Managed to buy a few Space 1999 items (mug, coaster and key ring) - but am just curious as to how come the vast majority of the merchandise on offer for sale was STAR WARS ? Anyone care to explain that one ?

FAN TALK WITH PRENTIS HANCOCK

A very pleasant and friendly person.

I had an interesting chat with Prentis and asked him how come the powers that be decided not to invite him back for Space 1999 Year 2 (especially seeing as how his character Paul was 2nd in command in Year 1). He replied that he wasn't ever given an explanation and that the first he knew about it was when Zienia contacted him at the start of filming Year 2, saying 'Where are you ? We need you.'

He also talked of the opening Year 1 episode 'Breakaway' and joked about how it took around 3 weeks to film that 1 episode.

HAVING A SWELL TIME WITH CATHERINE SCHELL

What a lovely charming lady.

Got the chance to have a chat with Catherine and she admited to me that she hasn't watched the Space 1999 episodes since they were made, so I quickly decided NOT to ask her questions about specific episodes !

Instead I asked her about the wikopedia statement that during Year 2, there were plans for a spin off series featuring Maya, to which she replied that yes, there were indeed plans but that it never happened in the end and that no draft scripts exist (big shame - if such scripts had existed, I would love to have added those to my collection of scripts).

She also mentioned that she had to push the 'relevant powers' that be, concerning the current re-runs of Space 1999 on ITV4, in order to get some revenue coming her way.

She currently lives in France, so I thought it was really nice of her to make the effort to travel all the way over to Birmingham to attend the Show.

By the way, the next Birmingham NEC Memorabilia event takes place 27 - 28 March 2010.

I'm hoping that some more ex cast members of Space 1999 might be on that guest list - fingers crossed.

memorabilia november 2009 show

Post by Jack18 on Wed Dec 09, 2009 9:01 am

i met Prentis Hancock at the memorabiila. great to talk to. i chose my photo and tried to tell him my name and he couldn't hear me because of where the organisers of memorabilia had put prentis and zienna near to the wrestling. told him my favourite episode was the last sunset. he also told me why Zienna wasn't there at the memorabilia. it was due to having a bad cough. i shook his hand and now me and prentis are friends on facebook.

Jack18 - you are so right about those wrestlers. That's reminded me - I must send an email to the organisers of the Show to
a) thank them for including some guests from Space 1999 and
b) ask them to give a good kick up the backside to whoever decided to locate Prentis next to the wrestling arena. Disrespect or what !!!

Come to think of it, I wonder why Catherine was located on a different aisle. If the organisers had located them next to each other, that would have been a great Space 1999 zone area and they could have exchanged witty stories and memories and pranks from the time of filming Space 1999... Now that would have been interesting to listen in to

Yes - and one of the photos on the desk in front of him was one of him carrying Sandra in his arms - taken from that episode I believe. I remember saying to him that it must have been fun filming that scene and he smiled.

Don't know how he kept a straight face in that episode when he had to shout 'THAT WAS SACRED BREAD'

Yes - difficult choice as there were quite a few to choose from. In the end I chose the picture of him wearing the orange space suit. He also kindly signed my colour photocopy of the Carlton DVD Year 1 Volume 5 front cover sleeve which has a picture of him on it - so that was a nice bonus.

Actually, Catherine kindly did the same for me - signed one of her photos, and also signed my colour photocopy of the Carlton DVD Year 2 Volume 2 front cover sleeve which has a picture of her on it.

A perfect day...

It's been out for some time, the Carlton series 2 set that is, for example.

Did you mean the Network set ? - because, yes, that would be great if a Network series 2 set was released, based on the high standard, great booklet and whole extra dvd of extras on the Network Year 1 set already available.
