THE COMPLETEST BUG

Post by SPACE 1899 on Sun Nov 15, 2009 3:01 pm

Anyone care to share their experiences of what the completest bug has caused them to do in the way of collection of Space 1999 items ?

ok - I'll start the ball rolling. I've currently been 'compelled' to start collecting the German Zack comics that featured Space 1999. I can't understand German, but - hey - the artwork / design is superb.

Over to you...

I have all the US and UK publications, be they books or comic forms. I also have postal cards, cards, and anything printed from Fanderson.

Now that's interesting.
I have all the UK paperback novels and have just ventured onto the path of getting the US versions - I recently purchased the US version of Breakaway, which has a nice section of black and white photos inside, whereas the UK version did not. Do the rest of the US paperbacks also have photos inside ?

I have also just started to venture onto the path of getting the novels in hardcover versions - but - ouch !!! - they tend to be a lot more expensive - I have only purchased 'Breakaway' so far in hardcover version.

Although a whole set of hardcover Space 1999 novels would look very nice on the bookshelf Smile

Anyone else out there admit to having all the novels in paperback versions AND in hardcover versions ?

They most certainly do.

Yes. Six of them do, covering the first series.

I also succombed to the urge to buy the whole video set (videos 1 to 20) for a bargain price on ebay recently, even though I've got the dvd sets (Network and Carlton).

Still well worth it though, for the sleeve cover artwork and photes alone in my opinion Very Happy

oops - you're right - that's 4 more videos to buy then !

Speaking of videos, regarding the compilation episode videos, I've also got the 4 PolyGram videos - Journey To The Black Sun, Destination Moonbase Alpha, Cosmic Princess, and Alien Attack, but notice that they are also issued by Channel 5 videos with different artwork, so have managed to get the Channel 5 version of Cosmic Princess, and Alien Attack so far.
You just know it makes sense Smile

I passed up the opportunity to buy a job lot load of Space 1999 laser discs recently on ebay as it would have meant having to go out and buy a laser disc player, and I was told the remastered dvd quality was better anyway ?

Anyone else got laser disc versions of any of the episodes and if so, how do they compare ?

The Network set is unequivocally superior. For series two, you can make a good argument that the LD quality is superior.

mmm - I was tempted to buy the laser discs, but it would have meant a lot of extra clutter around the TV as well - ie dvd recorder, video recorder AND laser disc player. Crying or Very sad

I only ever bought vols 1-10 on VHS, and then later 21 and 22, because I was only really interested in series 1 at the time.

Generally speaking, I'm not a completist for Space: 1999. (Doctor Who on the other hand... Rolling Eyes ) Having the DVDs and soundtrack CDs is enough for me. I've got the 11 original series 1 novels, the "Making of" book, and a couple of Dinky Eagles, but I see them more as extras than "must haves"...

Just managed to purchase the Channel 5 video versions of Journey To The Black Sun, and Destination Moonbase Alpha for a few quid each on ebay over the last few weeks - my set is now complete

Paid a couple of quid (absolute bargain) on ebay for a code to program my dvd player to make it region free - so have now just purchased the USA A&E 30th Anniversary Space 1999 year 1 and 2 dvd set - 16 dvds with bonus extra dvd.

Shall be checking it out for any differences between that set and the UK Carlton Year 1 and 2 sets and Network Year 1 set that I already have.

Likewise. Same also applies to the various jigsaws available - never had the patience for them myself...

I have quite a few of the Space:1999 dolls, but I don't have a complete collection....never had any intention of having a complete collection of them, either.

I'm not much of a completest, I only get what I'm interested in having.

Think I've got all the dolls inc. security guard but missing plain clothes Carter.
And yes, all the books (hard & soft) plus German ones I can't even read! lololol

Lucky you, Scatta, having the German ones (all of them ?). I only have one of them so far - Die unheimliche Kraft - but was kindly given that one as a completely suprise free gift from a German ebay seller - because I had already bought quite a few Zack comics (featuring Space 1999) from that seller.
How's your German translation coming along ? Smile

Well - the completest bug strikes again. I already have the Cosmic Princess video (PolyGram issue) and the Cosmic Princess video (Channel 5 issue) but have just also purchased the Cosmic Princess video (Precision pre-cert issue) as the cover artwork is slightly different. Smile
