This movie didnt get a very wide cinema release but it is well worth checking out now it is available on dvd. I am sure that Gerry Anderson fans will feel a warm glow of recognition throughout the film as the sets, costumes and effects seem to have a more than a whiff of both UFO and Space 1999 about them. Director and co-writer Duncan Jones quotes Silent Running and 2001 as the main sources of inspiration but that has probably more to do with gaining kudos from hardcore sci-fi movie buffs.

One particular scene has shades of 'Another Time, Another Place' about it, when John and Alan investigate the wreckage of a crashed Eagle on the future Moon's surface.

It is quite the interesting little film, is it not? I also thought there were more than a few hints of homage to our show. Well worth the watch.

The movie provided a very different viewing experience and one that is far removed from the 'whizz-bang' style of fantasy films at the moment.

The downbeat melancholy is a mood I associate with aspects of season one.

I haven't had a chance to see it, but I hear physical models were used for the most part, rather than CGI.

You are absolutely correct. The lunar rovers are such a delight to see as they have all the hallmarks of a classic Gerry Anderson moon vehicle. Bill Pearson, the supervising model maker on Alien worked on this movie and that quality is present here.
